He led 200 years of peace and prosperity. The Roman Empire led the entire Mediterranean region. Peace lasted until 180 ad. Augustus built a professional Roman army of about 150,000 men. Created a specialized force of about 9,000 men from the army designed to protect the emperor called the Praetorian Guard. Rome conquered and added land to the Roman Empire. Rebuilt Rome to be beautiful once again. Augustus imported grain to feed the poor. He worked to improve Roman government. More than 50 million people lived in Rome. Augustus added proconsuls(governors) to each of Rome's provinces. Augustus fixed the Roman tax system to be more fair. Augustus created a more fair legal system.

Augustus led Rome for about 40 years, dying in the year 14, but after, someone had to replace him. Augustus had been training his cousin Tiberius to rule after. The successors of him include Cladius, Caligula and Nero. They were all related to Augustus. Tiberius and Cladius were good Roman leaders and followed Augustus's rule. Caligula had a mental illness and was very cruel. He had many people murdered and made his favorite horse a consul. He was eventually killed. Cladius then stepped up as the Roman leader. Nero was the last ruler of the four. He killed his mother and two of his wives. According to legend, he was playing music miles away while Rome burned. Nero eventually committed suicide.

After Nero committed suicide leaving Rome in a sort of rough patch, one of Nero's consuls, Vespisian, took over Rome. Vespisian restored peace and order to Rome. During his reign, Vespisian assembled the colosseum. After Vespisian's rule, his son, Titus, took over Rome. Titus was ruler during two disastrous events. The first being the volcano erupting destroying Pompeii. The second being a major fire. From the years 96-180 the 5 "good" ruler consisted of Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelius.

4) What unified the empire?
The empire reached its largest size under Trajan's rule. Hadrian decided to start to withdraw some troops since the empire had grown too large. Hadrian built a wall to keep certain people away from Rome. Rome's size was about 3.5 million square miles. The empire was so large that some citizens spoke different languages with some speaking Greek, and others Latin. People also practiced different customs. What unified Rome were the laws. Most everyone was proud to be a Roman. In the year 212, everyone was made a Roman citizen.

Most people in Rome were farmers. Slave farms were very common in this region. The making of wine and olive oil became an extremely large business. Britain and Egypt's grains kept Rome's people well fed. Agriculture and Industry made up the economy including pottery makers, weavers, and jewelry makers. Traders from all over the eastern world came to these ports to trade. So all of these agricultural and industrial ports along major rivers led the economy to a major economical "boom".

Good transformation methods were valuable to trade. Rome's roads stretched out in a total distance of 50 thousand miles. Roman navy worked to eliminate pirates. Roman coins were accepted all throughout the mediterranean region by the year 100. Merchants could use the same currency in Gaul and Greece as in Italy. The Romans also created standard weights and measurements to better trading. This made things easier to price and trade goods.
7)What inequality remained?
The only inequality that remained was that while the wealthy got even more rich, many city-dwellers that came from small farms remained poor. Many slaves also remained slaves. So Roman life was great for a great number of people, but not everyone experienced the Roman economical boom the same way that the wealthy did.
